Here she carved sandstone into whimsical pillars such as the impressive Maltese cross and bored through rock creating monumental arches, like the The Wolfberg Arch. The scale and drama of the scenery needs to be seen to be believed.
GUIDED DAY HIKES IN THE CEDERBERG MOUNTAINS - 3 DAYS
Using the Sanddrif area as a base we will guide you to the Cederberg’s famous treasures. Our first hike is to the enormous Maltese Cross. This giant free standing sandstone pillar is a fantastic spectacle. Behind it is Sneeuberg, the highest peak in the Cederberg Range. From the cross there are lovely views over the Cederberg nountains
Our next guided hike is to the Wolfberg Arch. The trail ascends through the Wolfberg Cracks, gaining elevation over the Matjies river and providing excellent photo opportunities. Of course, the grand prize is the wolfberg Arch itself, colossa and beautiful it’s a grand reward for the effort of this hike.
Lastly, a gentle walk to the wonderland of the Stadsaal Caves, here the light and shadows dance around the Sandstone pillars and tunnels while the San Rock Art nearby tells the story of when Elephants were common in the Cederberg.
OVERNIGHT HIKE - MALTESE CROSS & SNEEUBERG - 2 DAYS
The Cederberg is an area of drama. The cliffs are sheer, the sandsone pillars huge, the climate uncompromising- hot in summer, snowy in winter. It is a land of contrasts and with that drama is beauty!
The nights are are a vivid display of stellar beauty and you can enjoy this experience while camping in the Cederberg Wilderness.
We hike to the Maltese Cross before ascending the imposing Sneeuberg mountain. The views from Sneeuberg, the highest Peak in the Cederberg at 2027m offers a panoramic vista. this is an unforgettable overnight hike.
