This guided trek starts in the Northern Drakensberg at about 2400m hiking up to the chain ladders used to ascend onto the Mont-Aux-Sources plateau on the Drakensberg Amphitheatre.
The Drakensberg escarpment rises & falls at around 3000m above sea level. We hike along the escarpment with the huge valleys & peaks to our left & the rugged terrain of the Lesotho highlands to our right. Clear mountain streams ensure a plentiful water supply, at night we camp in tents.
After 6 days of traversing the Drakensberg, descent is at
Cathedral Peak having trekked past many of the dramatic peaks in the Northern Drakensberg including Mnweni Pinnacles, Mponjwane & the Rockeries. NEXT JUNE & JULY 2010

The Transberg adventure takes place in a beautiful rugged isolated mountain range; to enjoy it fully, Backpackers must be fit, determined, enjoy wilderness camping & able to carry their own provisions.

AMPHITHEATRE TREK: An exploration of the splendid Amphitheatre, 2 nights of camping in the Northern Drakensberg with spectacular views, clear rivers & rugged mountains. Take in the summit of Mont-Aux-Sources & the top of the Tugela falls.
We head up onto The Mont-Aux-Sources-Plateau, climbing the famous chain ladders to get there & set up camp along the bank of the Elands River. While we prepare dinner, you can relax & enjoy the awesome sunset over the Maluti Mountains.
We climb (non technical) to the highest point on the Northern Drakensberg Escarpment, Mont-Aux-Sorces 3282m with it's commanding views of the amphitheatre & the plateau riddled with streams far below. We descend, to our 2nd night's camp on the Amphitheatre.
On our last day we hike to the Famous Tugela Falls with magnificent views of the Amphitheatre, Devil's Tooth & follow the Tugela River towards its source, descending past the imposing Sentinel Peak.
