Above the Keurbooms River Estuary is a small reserve where the Whiskey Creek Canoe Trail meanders through a pristine gorge. You’ll pack your gear into canoes and spend the day discovering the Keurbooms river with it’s dense natural forest draped over deep tannin stained water.
The log cabin at the end of the trail is deep in the forest and offers fantastic views from it’s expansive deck, a good spot for sundowners. Swimming & snorkeling in the river & rock pools, walking through the forest game & bird viewing are some of the delights to enjoy on this canoeing adventure.

Spend a sunny day on the picturesque Goukamma River. GoVertical’s guides invite you to spend the morning exploring the reserve where we’re delighted to reveal the subtle treasures the area supports. The river is open to the sea so it has a diversity of habitats & with it an abundance of wild life. While stretching your limbs and working off the holiday excess you can paddle beneath the watchful gaze of resident fish eagles, enjoy the antics of the shore waders and perhaps take some time to relax and sun yourself like the darters.
There are fascinating rock pools at the sea side of the reserve & picnic sites upriver. It’s the perfect place to spend a lazy day - that’s after we’ve got you to work up a sweat in the canoe. So bring your beachwear, walking shoes & ask us about our picnic lunch, you’re welcome to spend all day soaking up the sun after the canoe trip. |

KNYSNA ADVENTURE TRAIL - FULL DAY |

An awesome combination adventure that starts off with a morning canoe trail on the Knysna Estuary followed by a magnificent beach walk in the afternoon. This is a great way to explore the beauty and diversity of the Knysna Lagoon and coastline. Experience the tranquillity of paddling on the huge Knysna Lagoon with water birds and sea creatures to keep you company, it’s a refreshing change from the energy of Knysna town.
Having worked up an appetite we’ll ground the canoes and head uphill for a spectacular view of the Knysna Lagoon and Buffalo Bay, the perfect spot for an adventurers lunch. After refreshments we head onto the splendid beach and walk from Brenton on Sea to Buffalo Bay, expect interesting rock formations, pristine dunes, wide empty beaches, rare black oyster catchers and comical sand pipers along the beach. This is a great full day adventure, no experience is necessary. |

HALF DAY EXPLORER Take a seat on one of our canoes and we’ll guide you to spectacular scenery. Highlights on this trip include paddling along the coast of the Western Head, Featherbed side of the Lagoon with the small coves, rugged rock, sandy beaches and mid estuary views of the Knysna Heads on the way to leisure Isle, so if you’ve got a waterproof camera - bring it along. This is a half day adventure available in the morning or afternoon.
FULL DAY EXPLORER A great canoe trip that starts from the forested banks of the deep dark, cola coloured waters of the Knysna River & heads down along the Knysna Estuary to where the lagoon empties through the heads into the ocean. You’ll have an opportunity to explore the riverside forest, tidal marshes, sand banks & all the creatures that call these diverse habitats home. What better way to end your day of exploration on the Garden Route than joining us on the Knysna Lagoon to view the splendour of the Knysna Heads as the sun starts to dip and bathes them in gold and copper rays. The Sunset Paddle is a 2 hour trip when the waters calm, the breeze warm and the paddling’s great. If the tides right we can catch a few lazy waves near Leisure Isle before beaching the kayaks and sipping on your first Sundowner of the evening all included on this chilled canoe trip. |
